Before + After: A JG Design Solutions Success Story

Project Purpose: Remodel a Seattle area townhome immediately after the home purchase to create a “Forever Home” to allow the new owner to age in place.

Project Overview: The completed design was achieved by juxtaposing the client’s favorite playful colors and kooky artwork, captured with clean, high-design elements like wide trim, wainscoting, stainless steel appliances, whimsical stone selections, and sharp, black hardware.

Project Scope: Complete remodel including the kitchen, 2.5 bathrooms, and all surfaces in between. New paint, storage space, appliances, cabinets, floors, and lighting fixtures throughout. Knocked down kitchen walls to create more open, connected living spaces. New cabinets were installed to the ceiling on side walls and a clever counter workspace was added under the adjacent wall/staircase with easy-to-access cabinets, built-in microwave, and wine storage.

Biggest Impact On Resale Value: Opening up the kitchen. The main level used to feel dark and cramped. Now, you still have distinctive spaces between living, kitchen, and family room, but the whole space is airy, open, and bright. You can see out every window, enjoy the floor-to-ceiling fireplace, and watch TV no matter where you stand on the main floor.

The Before and After Remodeling Photos

The Bright And Open Main Floor

Now we’re going to show you two sets of before and after images that show off the extent of the updates on the main floor of the townhome - looking from the family room through the kitchen to the living room and vice versa.

This Seattle area townhome was in good condition when it was purchased by the client, but it didn’t quite fit their aesthetic tastes and lifestyle. Specifically, the main level of the townhome - home to a pair of living areas, the kitchen, and a dining area, felt small and dark with three separate dimly lit rooms. Additionally, you could not see the front or backyard of the home unless you were in the adjacent room.

Before and After: As you can see here, the changes are significant. The floor-to-ceiling fireplace with whimsical stone adds depth and color to a dynamic living space. In the second pair of before and after images you can see the kitchen wall that was opened up to create a flow throughout the entire floor, connecting the living room and dining area to the kitchen for a brighter, more modern feel to the whole space.

The Kitchen

Before and after photographs of the first view of the kitchen, looking across the main work area. Notice how the breakfast bar was leveled off to create both better sight lines and more kitchen work space.

In this set of before and after photos please take note of the expanded cabinet space on the right - going all the way to the ceiling - as well as the brand new stainless steel appliances.

The Primary Bathroom

Primary Bathroom Before The Remodel

Before and After: On the left you can see the dated light fixtures, vanity, sink, and shower. And on the right you will find the beautifully modernized bathroom retreat with black hardware, bright white vanity, and gorgeous glass shower.

The Primary Bedroom

Before and After: A quiet and serene sanctuary, the primary bedroom was refreshed with efficient, modern, and unobtrusive built-in lighting and a beautiful white wainscoting accent wall to go behind the bed.
